North Korea visited by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu
Russia may be transferring terrifying nuclear weapon technology to North Korea in an alarming development following a new military alliance struck between Moscow and Pyongyang, South Korea has warned.
South Korean MP Yoo Sang-bum raised the alarm over a new defence deal that came after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last month.
The pair attended a military exhibition together in which Shoigu was shown North Korea’s newest lethal drones and ballistic missiles in its illegal arsenal.
Now, there are fears that Russia could be helping Pyongyang add to its collection by transferring nuclear-missile technology.
The politician added: “Russia is believed to have proposed sales of artillery shells and missiles and joint military exercises, while North Korea is analysed to have requested technical assistance, including leasing of weapons made in the West and repairing old equipment.”

He continued that there are also concerns that North Korea could take military action and may even launch an intercontinental ballistic missile in protest at an upcoming summit at Camp David in Maryland, USA on Friday.
According to Paul Bracken, professor of management and political science at the Yale School of Management, the alliance between Russia and North Korea is a major cause for concern.
He told Daily Express US: “There will be huge consequences: evading sanctions; sell ammo, drones, and landmines; and allow key specialists to help build their national programs. A Russian missile engineer can more easily go to North Korea to consult now.
“But we shouldn’t look for the taut blocs of the Cold War, like NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Things are much looser now.”
John R. Bryson, professor of enterprise and economic geography at Birmingham University told Daily Express US, said that while North Korea’s defense capabilities aren’t going to be of too much use to the Russians, the alliance is still worrying.
He said: “Russia’s ongoing military cooperation with North Korea is an example of Putin’s desperation. North Korea is not an innovator in terms of military technology. North Korea can provide Russia with weapons, but of what quality and quantity?
“There are also dangers for Putin in Russia becoming too aligned with North Korea. What could be forming is an alliance of rogue states.”
North Korea recently announced new alarming developments in its ballistic missile programme.
Last month, Pyongyang test-launched is powerful Hwasong-18 missile in a major threat to the West.
