Sex dolls have replaced a raft of human models during the coronavirus pandemic, with businesses snapping up the lifelike creations.
Sex Doll Genie (SDG), a US and European firm, witnessed an explosion in demand during lockdown – with interest in single males rising by 51.6% between February and March 2020.
The sex doll supplier also witnessed another new trend brought about by the introduction of Covid restrictions worldwide.
SDG has produced more asexualised fashion and photography models – with a 400% rise in demand since March last year.
Janet Stevenson, who founded the company along with husband Amit, said: “We’ve long known that, despite the name, sex dolls are about more than just sex; they’re essentially a human presence and can bring value to a wide range of situations where a human presence is required, yet not practical.
“This is something we’re seeing more and more of during the pandemic, and we’re excited to see applications of our dolls extend into a variety of other sectors, helping to boost positivity around what we’re truly passionate about.”
Some fashion businesses have struggled to provide socially distanced hair and make-up services during the pandemic, while other models have been unable to travel.
SDG says its dolls are helping to plug the gap, and are “emerging as a highly effective solution, helping fashion and photography firms to maintain operations and revenue during difficult times”.

The majority of products supplied by SDG are dolls, but it does have some models that utilise technology.

SDG claims they are among the most lifelike dolls in the world.
And bosses say that customers feel they are the closest thing to sex they have ever experienced.
SDG co-founder Amit Stevenson said: "Yes, I do believe they are the most realistic on the market.

"There are others like Sanhui and DS Summit Series that are very realistic too.
"But the Gynoid team’s background in designing movie prop models might be one big advantage they have."
The company previously reached out to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and offered their dolls for studying loneliness and companionship in space.
Amit added: “It’s very interesting for us to see sex dolls going back to their origins and becoming increasingly separated from sex itself, being used more to create a social presence and for companionship, just as they were used in the sixteenth century by Spanish and French sailors during long, isolating voyages.”
