Meghan Markle was never “good enough” for the Royal Family and has the wholehearted support of the US public, a commentator has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry sent shockwaves through the Firm last week with their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

As well as explaining their decision to leave the Royal Family, the couple made allegations of racism, Harry criticized his father Prince Charles and Meghan claimed Kate Middleton made her cry.

While polls in the UK suggest the interview may have damaged the Sussex’s reputation, opinion over the pond is starkly different.

Trisha Goddard, a British TV presenter based in the US, claims there was a sense of “snobbishness” about how the Sussexes were treated.

Appearing on ITV’s Harry and Meghan: The Week that Shook the Royals, she said: “The Americans think that their princess went abroad and married her prince – it’s that fairytale thing.

“She wasn’t good enough for them [the Royal Family].”

Trisha went on to say the Queen “came out better than anyone else” after the Oprah interview and thanks, in part, to her statement responding to the allegations.

But she criticised the rest of the Firm for remaining “quiet”.

LA Times columnist Patt Morrison echoed the sentiment that Americans supported the Sussexes.

“The Royal Family is seen as fuddy-duddy and out of date and that the wish to depart from the Royal Family was another indicator of that,” she said in the documentary.

“Most of this country has already chosen team Meghan and Harry much as it did with team Diana over team Charles.”

Elsewhere in the documentary, royal photographer Arthur Edwards claimed the former Suits actress received the “biggest welcome ever” of any new Royal Family member.

Arthur cited the mass outpouring of love from the public when she married Harry, with thousands lining the streets and millions more tuning in from home to watch them tie the knot.

Meanwhile, comedian Trevor Noah wasted no time at all in mocking the royals as he presented the Grammys in Los Angeles last night (March 14).
