Woman’s urgent plea for rescue dog who ended up ‘saving her life’

It's no secret that a dog is a man's best friend for a reason, with one of them being that they're often placed in positions where they could save lives.

In some cases, they come to the rescue in tough and extreme conditions, like bomb-sniffing dogs or on the police frontline.

Sometimes it's less obvious and dramatic and some pets save their owners just by providing comfort in the toughest of times.

In order to save the rescue dog who saved her, a woman is trying to raise £2000 for a surgery that could save her dog's life, TeamDogs reports.

Kate Saunders, 35, from Cornwall, adopted Dolly the three-year-old Romanian rescue dog last year.

At the time, Kate was trying to go sober and was in a rough place. She credited Dolly for saving her and helping her get through the tough times.

The tiny pooch has had a difficult start to life before being adopted by Kate, as she says that the dog is "finally safe and loved with a full tummy".

The only problem is that Dolly has been diagnosed with a condition called patella luxation for which she will need surgery costing thousands of pounds. A luxating patella is a kneecap that moves out of its normal location.

The pooch is insured but volunteer charity worker Kate says the condition is classed as "pre-existing" meaning the insurer will not cover the costs of any treatment.

"I just haven’t got the funds to be able to make her better," says Kate.

"She should be out playing and enjoying her life, it’s the least she deserves.

"She is my absolute world. She has had such a hard life as a street dog and she deserves to have some happiness now, which will dwindle away without this operation.

"I have had it rough myself really, I don't like to sob story, but I am now 20 months sober and particularly over the last year, that is down to Dolly, she rescued me. I was lost and she rescued me as much as I rescued her, she needs this surgery and needs the pain gone.

"Please help – every £1 will make all the difference."

So far Kate has raised £617 of the £2,000 target. You can donate to the fundraiser here.
