Boris Johnson appears to have fallen out of favour with the public, according to the latest YouGov poll which shows more people think he is doing badly as Prime Minister than well. After riding on a popularity high in April last year, his popularity appears to have waned.

YouGov tracks the PM’s popularity every month, asking between 1,623 and 3,326 adult respondents: “Do you think that Boris Johnson is doing well or badly as Prime Minister?”

Since April 13, 2020, when he reached an approval rating of 66 percent, Mr Johnson’s approval ratings have been steadily falling.

In October 2020 that support had plunged to just 34 percent, while 59 percent of those polled said the PM was doing badly.

Fast-forward almost a year, and the latest poll from August 29 shows a similar picture: 58 percent believe he’s doing badly while 35 percent support the PM. A total of eight percent said they didn’t know.

YouGov has also tracked the PM’s perceived competency.

When asked “Thinking about Boris Johnson, do you think he…Competent or incompetent?” more Brits thought the PM incompetent rather than competent.

In fact, the graph shows a very similar linear pattern as that asking the public if they supported the PM, with him seeing a peak in April 2020 with 55 percent saying he was competent in his role, against 31 percent saying he was incompetent and 14 percent who didn’t know.

But this has been on a steady decline over the past year and a half.

In September 2021 57 percent answered that the PM was incompetent compared to 28 percent who believed he is competent.

Mr Johnson’s personal fall in the polls appears to be mirrored in his Government’s popularity.

Approval of the Government has fallen significantly in recent months according to YouGov.

When asked the question “Do you approve or disapprove of the Government’s record to date?” far more disapproved than approved of the Government.

In September 2021 52 percent of those polled disapproved of the Government compared to 26 percent who approved.

Although there seem to be quite a few Brits who remain undecided.

As 22 percent of those surveyed said they didn’t know if they approved or disapproved of the Government.

According to these latest polls, it appears Britons have become disillusioned with the current Government and the PM.

But what do you think? Have your say in the comments below.
