Tory backbenchers have urged the PM to help millions set to be clobbered by rising prices and a tax hike.

Writing in the Daily Express, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said fuel prices are rising globally and the Government has a number of measures to help people.

But Conservative MP Richard Drax is among those calling for the National Insurance rise to be scrapped by No 10.

He said it “makes no sense” and hit out at taxes being at a 70-year high.

Labour predicted the basic state pension will be worth in real terms £222 less. It said the “cost of living crisis is set to hammer pensioners hard”.
