The UK is forecast to face a wintry end to the week with temperatures set to dip well below freezing. As Britons look ahead to Valentine’s Day, they are also expected to be hit by snowfall of up to 18cm in parts of Scotland.

Weather maps website WXCharts has predicted parts of northern Scotland, including the area around Inverness, could see mercury plunge to around -8C in the early hours of Friday morning.

Other parts of Scotland are also expected to see conditions remain cold, with temperatures varying from 0C to -5C.

The rest of the UK will be somewhat milder.

However, WX Charts suggests top temperatures in Wales and England at 9am will still hover around freezing.

The weather forecast website predicts snowfall is only expected to fall exclusively in Scotland on Friday.

The Met Office suggests the UK could also face wintry conditions later this week.

Their forecast for Wednesday to Friday said: “Rain affecting central and southern areas, weakening and clearing south by Thursday. Colder conditions in the north, following.

“Wintry showers and windy in the north. Widespread overnight frost by Friday.”

The UK’s national weather service has also warned some snow could fall over northern hills from February 12 to February 21.

They said: “Some showers are expected in the northwest at first on Saturday, but elsewhere it is expected to be dry and sunny after a frosty start.

“Rain and strengthening winds arrive to the north and northwest later, spreading to many areas by the end of the weekend.

“Thereafter, the unsettled conditions are expected to continue.
