Sir Keir Starmer was escorted into safety by the police when a mob of anti-Covid protesters shouted "traitor" and "Jimmy Savile" at him.
Video circulated on social media shows the Labour leader being bundled into the back of a police car on Monday (February 7) when he was walking close to Portcullis House – an office building used by MPs.
The group can be heard shouting baseless claims "why did you let Jimmy Savile off?" and "protecting paedophiles" as they surrounded the politician along the pavement.
Some protesters are holding signs opposing mandatory vaccinations and restrictions to curb the spread of Covid.
But there were also shouts about attacks on journalists, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, and about protecting paedophiles, naming Savile.
At least six officers lead Sir Keir to a nearby police car before being driven off at speed with flashing lights.
The incident came after Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a discredited claim that Sir Keir Starmer failed to prosecute sex offender Jimmy Savile while he was director of public prosecutions.
Richard Scorer, head of abuse and public inquiries at Slater and Gordon, said: "As one of the lawyers who represented many of Savile's victims, I can confirm that these allegations against Sir Keir Starmer are completely unfounded and unjustified.
"Sir Keir did more than any other director of public prosecutions to advance the rights of victims."
The Labour leader responded on Tuesday that it is a "ridiculous slur peddled by right-wing trolls".
He told Sky News: "They knew that he was going so low with that slur, with that lie – he had been advised not to do it because it's obviously not true.
"But he does it because he doesn't understand what honesty and integrity means."

Chris Bryant, the Labour MP who chairs the Commons Committee on Standards, said: "This is what happens when a Prime Minister descends into the gutter and recycles lies from hard-right conspiracy theorists.
"Political poison has an effect. Johnson has no moral compass."
Met Police released a statement and it read: "Shortly after 5.10pm on Monday, February 7, a man who had been surrounded by a group of protesters near to New Scotland Yard, was taken away from the scene by a police car.
"A man and a woman were arrested at the scene for assault of an emergency worker after a traffic cone was thrown at a police officer."
Johnson tweeted: "The behaviour directed at the Leader of the Opposition tonight is absolutely disgraceful.
"All forms of harassment of our elected representatives are completely unacceptable."
