Dominic Raab said that Russia will continue to try to assassinate President Zelensky, noting it was in Vladimir Putin’s military playbook. This comes after it emerged that President Zelensky has survived at least three assassination attempts in the past week, according to The Times. Speaking to Sky News this morning, the deputy Prime Minister said that Britain needed to “support Zelensky in every way we can”.

He refused to divulge the exact support Britain was providing the Ukrainian leader but said that the UK was giving him advice.

Sky News host Jayne Secker said: “Zelensky has become such a galvanising figure, quite an inspirational figure inside Ukraine.

“We know he has been targeted by Russian forces. If he were to be attacked, or forced to leave, what impact would that have?”

Mr Raab responded: “Well, we know the Russian playbook involves targeted assassinations.”

The deputy PM continued: “We saw that on the streets of Salisbury in 2018. We do need to support Zelensky in every way we can.

“We do give him advice, but I’ll be careful what I divulge here.

“We are willing to do whatever it takes to protect the Ukrainian defence and indeed President Zelensky in what is a very courageous stance he is taking.”
