A utility company that does underground directional drilling pleaded guilty Monday to a criminal pollution charge for discharging fluids from worksites into an Arvada storm drain that leads into Clear Creek.
Rapid Wire, LLC, pleaded guilty in Jefferson County District Court to one count of criminal pollution, according to a news release from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. Company owner Steve Faria entered the plea.
On Nov. 5, 2020, the stormwater administrator for Arvada informed the AG’s office about a report from a resident who saw Rapid Wire trucks discharging fluids along the Sheridan Boulevard frontage road in Arvada, the news release said. The illegal discharge happened on Oct. 28, 2020.
As part of the plea, Rapid Wire paid $10,000 to the the Colorado Watershed Assembly along with $2,747.40 in restitution to cover the costs of the testing and cleanup of the dumping sites, the release said.
Additionally, Rapid Wire, which drills an assortment of underground utility lines, including cable, phone, water, electrical, and gas, will forfeit its municipal general contractor license with the city of Arvada. The company may reapply for a municipal general contractor license with the city in the future.
