A man involved in girls’ high school sporting events in the metro area has been arrested as a suspect in a sex assault investigation, according to police.
Darnell Ward, 44, was arrested on March 9 in Phoenix, Az., on suspicion of child exploitation and sexual assault, Aurora police said Thursday in a news release.
On August 6 and investigation began based on allegations of one victim, police said. Since the initial allegation, investigators have identified “two other additional victims,” the release said.
Ward was described by police as a spectator at Overland High School girls’ basketball games who also kept score at games in an “unofficial” capacity. Investigators believe he helped with other sporting events at metro area schools and that there may be additional victims. Since his arrest, Ward has been extradited to Colorado.
Anyone with information on the case, or anyone with unreported allegations, is asked to call Aurora police at 303-627-3100 or contact Internet Crimes Against Children at 303-739-6711.
