Mum who got daughter nose job to stop her being bullied says ‘money well spent’

A mum claims she started saving for her daughter's nose job when she was just 12 years old after she was subjected to anti-Semitic bullying.

Loren Lahav, 56, revealed that her sixth-grade daughter Asher was made to feel insecure as kids at the Lutheran school she attended began calling her 'Jew nose.'

The youngster began concealing her nose with heavy makeup and contouring, and would sometimes sleep in makeup when she was at sleepovers because she was terrified for her friends to see her bare face.

When COVID-19 hit, the then-teenager thought that mask-wearing was a blessing as she was able to keep her nose covered.

Loren explained to the New York Post: "It was really affecting her emotionally. It really wasn’t a vanity thing. There were a lot of mean girls. They were Instagram private messaging her.

"On the outside, she appeared strong and tried to be the makeup girl, but she was really unhappy. The makeup was a cry for help.

"She started shaving her eyebrows. She had imposter syndrome. I was worried she would harm herself.”

Loren, who works as a life coach, was worried about the lasting mental health effects for her child and saved for two years to get Asher the $30,000 needed to pay for travel to see a Beverly Hills surgeon and have cosmetic surgery.

In June 2021, just days after her 14th birthday, Asher had her procedure with Dr. Babak Azizzadeh of the Center for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery but her mum has been heavily criticised for going through with it.

However, Loren has defended her actions and believes it was money well spent.

She said: "I didn’t listen to the criticism. I knew my daughter was in pain. It’s not fair to say to someone, ‘You’re fine, you’re beautiful the way [you] are,’ if they know it doesn’t feel right.

“Until people are in that situation, they don’t know. I have a great relationship with [my daughter]. It was the best money I ever spent in my entire life to see my daughter happy.”
