New York City cops continue to hunt for a masked gunman who opened fire on a crowded subway train this morning (April 12) shooting ten people and injuring 29.
New York's Gov. Kathy Hochul has stressed that until the suspect is found this is "an active-shooter situation right now in the city of New York."
According to NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, police are looking for a man who is about 5 feet 5 inches tall who was wearing a green construction vest, a grey sweatshirt and a gas mask.
Police are also searching for a U-Haul van with plates that don't come from New York which they believe was used in the shooter's getaway.
After searching the train station where the incident occurred, investigating officers found a disturbing bag full of items they believe to belong to the shooter.

Included among the items was a bag of smoke bombs and fireworks.
Law enforcement officials have reportedly told the post that the shocking attack could have been more violent if the shooter's Glock pistol hadn't jammed, reports The New York Post.
A source said: “It was lucky that it jammed because we could be talking about a lot more people in hospitals or worse.
“Dozens more people would have been wounded or more seriously injured.”
Chillingly, the jammed Glock and two extended magazines were also found at the scene of the shooting.

Authorities have confirmed that they are not treating the incident as terrorism and state that five of the victims are in a critical but stable condition.
Detectives say they have found a credit card at the scene which they believe belongs to the gunman and are now using it to try and track him.
