A man who died when he was allegedly 'chased by four teenagers' is said to have jumped over a fence to escape and fell 90ft to his death.
An inquest heard Dale Simmons was found lying face down near a quarry, and is believed to have fallen to his death after a man and three boys pursued him.
Simmons leapt over a garden wall in a bid to get away from the alleged chasers, with the 42-year-old coming across the group in Chalk Pitt Hill in Chatham, Kent while walking with his partner.
He was not found until 11am the next morning after his partner reported him missing to police.
Mr Simmons is said to have been discovered "at the rear left corner of the building, near a quarry, lying face down" the inquest heard.
Mid Kent and Medway assistant coroner Katrina Hepburn said the cause of death was given as a head injury, with the injuries Simmons received "consistent with a fall from height," police said at the time of his death.
Ms Hepburn said there were likely to be criminal proceedings so no date would be set for a further hearing and suspended the inquest "pending criminal investigations".
Four teenagers appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court last week on charges of manslaughter and are due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court next month.
Following his death, tributes were paid to Mr Simmons, who was known to homelessness charity Gillingham Street Angels.
Neil Charlic, the charity's chief executive, said Simmons was a "lovely and bubbly type of guy".
He added: "It's very sad for him and his family. He was local and well-known in the area and to us. He was a nice fella – a lovely and bubbly type of guy.
"He was a sound bloke and nobody had a bad word to say about him. He was always lovely and friendly."
