A man has been airlifted to hospital after he wrestled with a freshwater crocodile at a waterfall.
The victim, aged in his 40s, was on a motorcycle tour of Lawn Hill national park in Queensland, Australia, on Sunday (May 15) when the terrifying incident took place at around 2pm (local time).
He had been swimming in the gorge at Adel's Grove when the giant beast latched onto his arm and refused to let go.
The brave man told rescue crews that he wrestled with the reptile before managing to escape.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue drove the man to a nearby airstrip where they proceeded to board him onto a helicopter and fly him from the park to a local hospital where he remains in a lot of pain but also in a stable condition.
He suffered puncture wounds to his arm, hands and leg, with the bite wounds going very deep.
Aircrew officer Greig Allan said: "The patient told us the crocodile would have been between two and three metres long, so he’s lucky to have escaped with his life."
The Queensland Ambulance Service’s north-west district’s superintendent Brad Hardy said there was a large population of freshwater crocodiles in the area.
He explained: “They are normally quite timid but when they are surprised they will be aggressive."

Earlier this month a teenage girl in Zimbabwe was killed by a croc while bathing in a river.
Nomatter Raymond had only been in the water a few minutes when the animal exploded out of the water and dragged her away in front of her screaming friends.
Villagers rushed to the area straight away upon hearing the screams and started a desperate search, but the crocodile had vanished with her body.
Mashonaland Central Police Inspector Milton Mundembe said her body was found two days later around 70 metres further up the river.
