In September last year the disappearance of American woman Gabby Petito captured the attention of the world.
Gabby had been travelling across the United States on a road trip with her fiancé Brian Laundrie since July.
But just a few months into their trip, Laundrie returned home without Gabby and she was eventually reported missing by her mother.
On September 19 Gabby's body was found at a campground near Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming. A coroner determined she'd died from "blunt-force injuries to the head and neck, with manual strangulation".
After she was reported as missing, Gabby's fiancé Brian also went missing.
His disappearance and her brutal murder sparked a massive manhunt and Gabby's parents also hit out at his family for failing to help the investigation into their daughters killing.
Here's what happened to Brian Laundrie and his parents.
What happened to Brian Laundrie?
Brian Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida without Gabby on September 1 2021.
On September 6, he joined his family on a camping trip about 75 miles from their home.
Gabby was reported missing on September 11 after her mother hadn't heard from her in 13 days.
Brian's parents told police that he left their home to go hiking in Carlton Reserve on September 14, but later changed this to a day earlier. He wasn't reported as missing until September 17, a few days before Gabby's body was found.
Brian's disappearance sparked a manhunt and teams spent weeks scouring the Carlton Reserve for any sign of him.
On September 24 the FBI issued a federal arrest warrant for Laundrie for his "use of unauthorised devices", this was in relation to his use of a debit card that didn't belong to him and Gabby's family claim that it was hers.
In October 2021, remains of Laundrie's body were found at Carlton Reserve, they were identified using his dental records.
The following month, an autopsy revealed that Laundrie had killed himself.
Alongside his remains, a notebook of Laundries was recovered and in it he admitted to killing Gabby.
Last month, pages of his notebook confession were published. In it Laundrie claimed that he'd ended Gabby's life as a mercy killing after she slipped and hurt herself in a stream.
After the confession was published, Gabby's mum Nichole Schmidt shared an image on Twitter that said "Narcissists rewrite history to escape accountability. You are not crazy".
She captioned the post: "fed up".
Allegations against Brian Laundrie's parents
Brian Laundrie's parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, came under intense public scrutiny during the manhunt for their son.
After Brian's body was found and the cause of death was confirmed, the Laundrie's lawyer, Steven Bertolino, issued a statement saying: “Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families."
Since the murder of Gabby and the suicide of their son who killed her, the Laundrie's have continued to live at their home in Florida.
Petito's parents are now suing Brian Laundrie's parents, claiming that he told them he had killed their daughter on August 28.
The civil lawsuit, filed by Gabby's parents in March this year, alleges that Christopher and Roberta Laundrie hid that their son had confessed the murder to them from investigators while the search was ongoing.
The lawsuit claims that their conduct was "shocking, atrocious, and utterly intolerable in a civilised community."
The Laundrie's lawyer has said that the Petito's claims are "baseless under the law" and said: "This lawsuit does not change the fact that the Laundries had no obligation to speak to law enforcement or any third party including the Petito family."
Earlier this month, a Florida circuit court judge ruled that the lawsuit could move forward and now it is set to go to trial.
