The lawyer of a 39-year-old man who was killed while ziplining at a beach in northeastern Brazil of Ceará has accused the private operator of negligence.
Sergio Lima was filming himself sliding down the zip line cable at Canoa Quebra beach in the municipality of Aracati on October 10 when one of the wood beams collapsed and sent him plunging as his girlfriend watched in horror.
The harrowing footage shows a smiling Lima wowing at the camera when he suddenly plummets to the sand dunes 15 seconds into the ride.

A second video of the tragic accident that was recorded by his girlfriend at the end of the platform reveals the horrifying moment the zip line cable snapped.
“The support beams that were made of wood were not well buried, they were buried only at a superficial level of the sand,” João Monteiro, the family’s attorney, told Brazilian news outlet G1 on Tuesday. “Therefore, they did not provide the necessary firmness for those who carried out the tour.”
According to the lawyer, Lima questioned one of the zip line station workers about the cable line’s sturdiness before he was hooked to the harness.
“Before boarding, he asked the zip line employee, ‘Can it handle my weight? Look, I weigh 352 pounds,’” Monteiro said.

Lima, who was visiting from the northern state of Pará, died as he was being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Monteiro said the zip line operator’s failure of providing equipment such as a helmet and a vest played a part in Lima’s death.
“It was precisely the cause of death – Sergio (Lima) died of brain trauma,” Monteiro said.
The Aracati city government shut down all zip line companies the day after the accident and is still investigating the incident.
