The man behind a brutal hammer attack on the husband of US House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi has been revealed to be a nudism activist with an obsessive interest in conspiracy theories.
David Depape was arrested at Pelosi’s San Francisco home early on Friday morning where he had burst in yelling “Where’s Nancy”.
When police arrived, at around 2.30am, they found Depape struggling with Paul Pelosi, and saw him “violently attacking” Mr Pelosi.

Trump supporter Depape, 42, was tackled and disarmed by officers. He had apparently attempted to tie up Mr Pelosi and wait "until Nancy got home”.
Mr Pelosi, 82, suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his right arm and hands but is expected to make a full recovery.
After his arrest, investigators examined Depape’s Facebook page, which showed multiple posts claiming that “Hitler did nothing wrong” and that Donald Trump had been cheated out of the presidency.
His blog is filled with rambling discussions of QAnon conspiracy theories and biblical prophecies. Headlines with titles such as “Communist Voodoo science,” “Feminist gets owned” and “The Woke are Racists with a guilty conscience”
In a post uploaded a few days ago, he claimed that the war in Ukraine was a ploy to benefit Jewish people.

Depape is known to have attended a 2013 “nudity ban protest,” and is reported to have shared a home with nudist activist Oxane “Gypsy” Taub and her fiance, Jaymz Smith.
He was the best man in a naked wedding that Taub tried to stage outside San Francisco City Hall.
Despite being a fan of public nudity, Depape is described as extremely shy. “He said he couldn’t even go and have a bank account because he was terrified of speaking to a teller,” said former friend Linda Schneider.

Laura Hayes, another former friend of Depape’s told CNN that she worked on his hemp jewellery business about 10 years ago:“He was very odd,” she said. “He didn’t make eye contact very well”.
She added that “he talks to angels and there will be a hard time coming”.
DePape has been arrested on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
