After we reported in August how one vulnerable arthritis sufferer was stung, others contacted us with identical experiences about US-based Organixx-cbd.com which now seems to have disappeared.

Irene Griffith thought she was paying £35 for her gummies, but at checkout found her debit card had been charged £272 and the crooks refused to let her cancel, in flagrant contravention of her consumer rights.

In the course of our investigations a totally separate, 100 percent legitimate US retailer Organixx.com told us how it had been approached by concerned customers, that it had absolutely nothing to do with the other site or the alleged fraud and it was looking to resolve the company name issue as soon as possible.

We then helped Irene get a refund from her bank. Now we are delighted another victim has received justice. Like Irene, Joan Brown is typical of a growing market of customers, mainly older, going online to source health products to help with chronic conditions.

After seeing our coverage the disabled pensioner told us instead of £45 she had been charged £212.  “I should have been more cautious,” she admitted. But we explained the circumstances to her bank Lloyds and a spokesperson said:

“We’ve been able to provide our customer with a full refund of the amount she paid, but social media can be a risky place to shop online, as it’s hard to assess if a seller or item is genuine.

“Always be wary of offers that look too good to be true and do your own research. In particular, pay close attention to the details at check out.”
