Bloke who broke into I’m A Celeb castle decked girlfriend’s neighbour after row

An urban explorer who took advantage of extreme weather conditions to break into the Welsh castle where I'm A Celeb was being filmed has appeared in court over a violent parking dispute.

Darryl 'Taffy' Tipton, of Colwyn Bay, North Wales, admitted attacking his girlfriend's neighbour Robert Edwards after after being asked not to block a driveway with his car.

The unemployed 34-year-old was sentenced to a 12-month community order by magistrates in Llandudno on Monday (February 27).

Mr Edwards hadn’t had any problems with parking in the 22 years he’d lived in his current home, prosecutor James Neary told magistrates, until Tipton started visiting one of his neighbours.

Mr Edwards had asked Tipton to move his car because it was blocking his driveway, but in a “totally unprovoked” attack Tipton punched him, knocking him to the ground which caused a nasty cut on his elbow.

Defence solicitor Simon Sargent told the court that Tipton 'momentarily' lost his temper during an argument.

“He does regret his actions,” he said. “He does accept his behaviour was unacceptable."

Tipton had been held on remand before appearing in court. As well as his community order and fines, he was also ordered to complete 15 days rehabilitation.

Tipton made headlines back in 2021, when Storm Arwen had led to a temporary shutdown of that year’s series of I'm A Celebrity.

He claimed to have spent over an hour exploring Gwrych Castle in Abergele with a mate, filming the area where the celebrities slept and avoiding detection by the site’s high-tech bulletproof security robots.

“ITV need to beef up their security,” he told the Sun at the time. “We were able to wander around for about 90 minutes before we were apprehended.

“There were a few guards around but we waited until they had gone. Once we got in we were able to find our way around quite easily."

Tipton said that there were secret under-floor heating pads for the celebs to sit on. “My flat is freezing compared to that castle,” he revealed, “they live like kings and queens.”

Tipton was one of a number of people to have breached the castle’s tight security.

Before the 2021 filming even began an #IACGOOH superfan named Emma Louise managed to get herself past six checkpoints and into the castle grounds.

She said. “My boyfriend said I would never have this chance again…to go and look round my favourite TV show, so we got out and looked around.”
