A free reservation service that launches this week at Denver International Airport will allow passengers to skip DIA’s often-lengthy security lines by booking their screening in advance.
But the DEN Reserve service, which DIA says is set for a “soft launch” on Thursday, may require some planning to snag one of the limited appointment slots for the security checkpoint on the terminal’s bridge to Concourse A.
The online service, at den.whyline.com, allows reservations up to three days before a flight. Any remaining slots will be available to travelers at the spur of the moment, with signs near the A-Bridge security line displaying a QR code for the website. A user can book for an individual or a group, and no account or membership is necessary.
By choosing the A-Bridge checkpoint, which offers only standard screening, DIA is gearing the reservation option toward travelers who don’t have PreCheck or Clear memberships. (PreCheck members should head to the north main security checkpoint on Level 5, and Clear lanes are available at both the north and south main checkpoints.)
Appointments through DEN Reserve will be available one to four hours prior to the departure time, with no airline restrictions. Flights departing from concourses B or C will require travelers to take the underground concourse train after passing through the A-Bridge checkpoint.
The major caveat is that the reservations are available only between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., so some early morning and late-night flights — those departing prior to 6 a.m. or after 9 p.m., given the booking restrictions — aren’t eligible.
To use the service, travelers find their flights via prompts and drop-down menus to learn whether appointments are available for that flight time, and then choose when to show up.
Once it’s booked, the service sends an email with a QR code to scan at the checkpoint. Each appointment comes with a 15-minute window to show up at A-Bridge security, with signs directing reservation-holders to the DEN Reserve area.
