Royal brothers’ rift started long before Meghan Markle in re-surfaced clip

Prince Harry and Prince William appeared to be feuding long before Meghan Markle after the Duke of Sussex made comments about a rift between the pair in a resurfaced clip.

The 38-year-old was seen with his older brother, the Prince of Wales watching footage from Prince Harry's Christening in 1984, when he was three months old.

While William seemed excited to be a big brother in his younger years — Harry seemed to believe the novelty died off pretty quickly.

In the 2016 documentary Elizabeth at 90: A Family Tribute, which dates back to before Prince Harry met his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duke said: "Look how excited you are to have a younger brother, it's fantastic."

Before adding: "It didn't last long."

It is not clear what was meant by the comment but the Duchess of Sussex has long taken flack for the breakdown of Harry's relationship with his brother since they stepped down in May 2020.

But how close William and Harry truly were before they became estranged is often debated.

Prince Harry has often pushed back on the "idea that somehow my wife was the one that destroyed the relationship between these two brothers" and said that there has been "a lot of pain between the two of us, especially the last six years."

But the brother's closeness in their childhood still leaves Royal fans gushing as they wish the Princes could become close again.
