Pretty European seaside city is lovely except for ‘pushy strip club promoters’

A chocolate-box looking European city appears to have everything going for it with reasonable restaurants and stunning architecture, but some tourists claim they have been put off going back by ‘pushy strip club promoters’.

Beautiful Baltic coast city Gdansk, in Poland, is already a delight on the eyes but unfortunately according to some reviews several venues want to show visitors a whole lot more.

Many tourists are attracted to the medieval Old Town to admire the Hanseatic townhouses and enjoy walks along the cobbled side streets on the banks of the Motława River.

However, a look at experiences from people reviewing Gdansk online shows strip clubs in the historic area often try to lure tourists inside with somewhat aggressive tactics.

Erotic entertainment would seem to fit more with lads holiday destinations like Amsterdam and Prague, and seeing a seedier side to this pretty Polish city does seem to surprise some visitors.

Posting in May this year one person wrote on the travel review site Tripadvisor that Gdansk is a “beautiful place” but “agents from strip clubs just never leave you alone”.

“After tipical (sic) walk through old town at least 8-10 agents bug you, it’s very annoying and puts a black cloud over my visit.”

Another person commented that the Old Town was “great” but that the “only annoying thing is all the people asking you to go to strip clubs”.

One person said the Baltic port was a great place to go to as a couple but also noted “shame about strip club street promoters”.

Giving Gdansk four-out-of-five stars, they said: “I absolutely love Gdansk old town, the towering townhouses are so well maintained you’d think you were on a movie set.

“The only reason I’d knock a star off this review is that the street promoters for a lap dancing bar are very obtrusive, approaching all who walk down these otherwise pleasant streets.”

In 2021 the Stars and Stripes American armed forces newspaper reported members of the 101st Airborne unit went “off the rails” during a trip to Gdansk.

The publication said soldiers went to a forbidden strip club in the city leading to discplinary action when one officer was not found until the next day.
