46K New Covid Cases, 432 Deaths In U.S.

46,985 new cases of coronavirus infection and 432 deaths due to the disease were reported in the United States on Tuesday.

With this, the total number of people that have been infected with the virus in the country has risen to 80,732,936, and the total Covid casualties reached 989,366, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

California reported the most number of cases – 10,275 – and the most casualties – 92.

While there has been a 32 percent decrease in Covid casualties in the last fortnight, a 47 percent increase in the number of cases has been recorded in the same period, according to the latest New York Times tally.

Only 14,790 patients are remaining in the country’s hospitals for treatment for the viral disease. Hospital admissions have declined by 4 percent in two weeks.

There is also a concurrent reduction in the number of patients admitted in intensive care units – 16 percent within a fortnight. I.C.U. admissions dropped to 1933.

80,276,197 people have so far recovered from the disease, the Worldometer tally shows.

As per the latest data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 218,996,861 Americans, or 66 percent of the eligible population, have been administered both doses of Covid vaccine so far. This includes 89.8 percent of people above 65.

45.5 percent of the eligible population, or 99,595,909 people, have already received a booster dose that is recommended to provide additional protection from the killer virus.

3,403 additional deaths were reported globally on Tuesday, taking the total number of people who lost their lives due to the pandemic so far to 6,203,669.
