Dan, 29, admitted on the BBC One show: “I can’t sell…shoot me”, and tycoon Lord Sugar fired him after his team made just £2 profit from selling food to commuters. But six years on, Dan’s online retailer CPL (UK) Ltd has earned the royal seal of approval for its overseas trade success since 2018.
The Manchester-based firm, which he runs with parents Steve and Marie, sold more than 60,000 perfumes and beauty products with deals in 50 countries.
The family hope to collect their award at a Buckingham Palace reception this year.
Dan said: “When we sold our first bottle of perfume on eBay in 2009 to help pay my university tuition fees, we could never have dreamed the company would grow to this extent.
“I am excited by the potential of online marketplaces to reach consumers in far-flung destinations.
“I am proud that CPL has in many cases been the first British beauty retailer to launch campaigns in our target countries.”
Dan added: “Overseas customers and marketplaces now form the backbone of our business which has an international outlook and a global reach.”
