First-class response to missing stamps problem – The Crusader

She risked coming unstuck as she tried to swap her regular postage stamps for the new barcoded ones, but a customer is now back in pocket and able to carry on corresponding on paper to her heart’s content.

Time is running out for the big switch with July 31 set as the expiry date when the last time traditional stamps can be used. After that only barcoded ones will work.

Jane Wood was well aware back in February she wouldn’t use all the stamps she had accumulated in the time.

“I had 42 at 95p each and 60 more at 68p, so worth about £80,” she told Crusader.

She then did everything required – filling in the form, attaching the stamps not in their original books to a sheet of paper and sending them off to Freepost SWAP OUT. Last minute swappers note: post offices can’t accept them.

But after despatch Jane’s quest foundered. “When I didn’t get anything back, I tried several times to get in touch, phoning and writing, with no luck at all.”

Crusader was aware too that Jane’s health had sadly deteriorated in the past few months so even sending us the details had been an effort.

Thankfully Royal Mail, which is running the scheme, realised too. After checking and finding it could find no trace of her paperwork, without more ado it has sent her replacements.  These have arrived and she is delighted as it’s one less thing to worry about. “It’s made me feel more positive too about the future,” she says, “am looking forward to using these to send all my cards this Christmas.”

Take proof: There could well be a last-minute rush to swap in these last weeks, so take a photo of what stamps you are sending off as proof just in case there’s a hitch.
