In a recent interview, billionaire investor and entrepreneur Mark Cuban shared his thoughts on cryptocurrencies (including Bitcoin and Ethereum).
Cuban is the majority owner of the professional basketball team Dallas Mavericks, as well as one of the “sharks” on the highly popular reality show “Shark Tank” (which is aired on the ABC television network).
Speaking in a recent interview with CNBC’s “Make It”, Cuban said that Ethereum is the altcoin with the most upside potential for investment. Cuban was asked by the outlet what cryptoasset he would recommend for beginners or new investors in the industry.
Cuban gave his opinion of the altcoin landscape, including the myriad of digital coins for investors to sort through.
He said,
As an investment, I think Ethereum has the most upside.
Cuban also told CNBC that Bitcoin was a “better gold than gold.”
The billionaire recommended new investors to study the history of meme-based cryptocurrency Dogecoin ($DOGE) as an example of how the industry’s active social communities are able to drive prices and impact the overall market. He recommended $DOGE for “fun.”
CNBC’s report mentions that Cuban has an “extensive crypto portfolio,” which includes investments in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, several other altcoins, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and blockchain companies.
Fellow “shark” Canadian investor Kevin O’Leary (aka “Mr. Wonderful”) said during an interview with CNBC’s “Make It” in late July:
“I think there’s a difference between Dogecoin and let’s say USDC or Bitcoin or Ethereum or Solana… Within my own team, we have done a deep dive into crypto and we see value there in certain aspects of that market. We’ve increased our weighting to almost 10% of our book of our operating company into various cryptocurrencies, including USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, as I mentioned.“
