Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Sincic claimed Croatian expected a lot of their problems to be solved by the European Union when they joined the bloc in 2013. But less than eight years later, all they are left with are questions about the bloc’s involvement in their country’s handling of EU funds.
The Croatian MEP said much like Croatia, neighbouring Balkan country Bulgaria, is also experiencing high levels of corruption “sponsored” by the EU.
He said: “People of Croatia expected much more from joining the European Union.
“In the end, it was promised to them that many Croatian problems would be solved joining the European Union, especially judiciary problems.
“Unfortunately it is like a mafia state.
“It’s like a kleptocracy much like Bulgaria.”
He added: “Basically now within the European Union we get some funds, various funds, but there is really no real control of this money.
“It mostly goes to the political establishment.
“And people of Croatia and Bulgaria cannot believe that the European Union is allowing this to happen.
“So they are in a way sponsoring this corruption.
“This is all generating euroscepticism.”
Mr Sincic’s criticism of the bloc is not news.
Addressing the European Parliament earlier this month, he warned the coronavirus crisis has proven comparable to the 2008 financial crush, lamenting the Brussels bloc has equally failed to contain it.
He said: “Europe has taken a wrong turn in 2008 and that’s been said very clearly.
“Unfortunately this is a crisis that hasn’t been dealt with properly either compared to the one in 2008.
“We know that a third of all employees are suffering and we assume that many businesses will actually go bankrupt towards the end of the year.
“We have been acting blindly, even according to the WHO.

“We have policies now that say we should wear masks, politics have decided that we have to carry out these tests, politics have decided that if there are deaths then no autopsies will be carried out.
“All these deaths are being considered to be deaths because of Covid.
“And now, the Commission is coming to us with some sort of economic measure, telling us what we’re going to do.
“When are they going to accept that they made mistakes?”
Back in December 2020, Mr Sincic warned Brexit Britain would only be the beginning of the end for the Brussels bloc.
He told MEPs: “We should go back to the beginning: why did the UK want to leave the EU? They were disappointed with the way this organisation functions and they are not the only ones.
“When it comes to Croatia, our citizens see how the funds from the EU are spent and they’re also shocked and disappointed.
“They’re also disappointed when they see how the tenders are implemented in the case of EU funds.
“Let me mention projects for waste disposals.
“In this proposal you have the old methods specifying exactly the equipment you need in order to narrow down the criteria for selection of the best tender.
“There are other examples as well. Very often you have the principle of first come first serve without taking into account of the quality of the proposal.
“Instead of becoming a tool for development, the funds have become a tool for destruction.
“Unless the EU brings his home in order, Brexit will only be the beginning.”
