Former Lichfield councillor Alastair Little told BBC Breakfast that he was so “outraged” by Michael Fabricant’s “defence of the indefensible” that he left his job in protest. It comes as the MP for Lichfield threw his weight behind Prime Minister Boris Johnson for repeatedly holding “wine time Friday” COVID-19 rule-breaking parties behind the doors of No 10 in a desperate bid to save the PM’s skin.
Councillor Alastair Little told the show: “I resigned from the Conservative party out of outrage from my local member of parliament, Michael Fabricant…
“Who has been the lead backbench MP fawning over Boris Johnson in support of the indefensible!”
Mr Little went on to argue that he wanted to give the residents of Lichfield the “voice of the other side of the argument”.
He claimed there is a lot of support “on the ground” for those who object to Mr Johnson remaining in Downing Street because of the COVID-19 rule busting parties.

But he argued he could not continue in his job for as long as he opposed his MP and from within the Conservative party
He said: “I was forced to resign from the party in order to give the residents who I represent on Lichfield district council, who happen to be the same residents as Michael Fabricant…
“And give them the voice they want publicly, which is to support the resignation of Boris Johnson!”
Mr Little claimed he had heard nothing other than local people calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation as he stressed there has been a “very big groundswell” in opposition to Mr Fabricant’s support of the flailing PM.
Michael Fabricant defends Downing Street over latest party
Speaking to GB News earlier this week, Mr Fabricant urged critics to lay off heavy criticism of COVID-19 rule breaking parties at No 10 because the “circumstances” are different behind the doors of Downing Street.
He told the channel: “When you watch television, you see the front of ten Downing Street, you think it is very very small. In fact, it is three buildings connected into one, there are around 100 offices there!
“And I know from that period we are talking about, people were working long hours, 18-19 hour days, absolutely exhausted to deliver one of the best vaccine programmes in the world and that is generally accepted.”
But in an alternative take on what could be illegal proceedings, the Lichfield MP suggested the party enabled No 10 staffers to leave their ”stuffy offices” and continue work outside in a more Covid friendly environment.

He also argued the case was different to Downing Street, insisting the “closed operation” that is No 10 means that it differs from other workplaces because it does not have a transient footfall of different people entering its buildings like other locations, a view hotly disputed by host Tom Harwood.
Mr Fabricant went on to claim that from an “epidemiological point of view” the parties at No 10 paled into insignificance compared to the “18 hours they were stuck in the offices together”.
Reacting to the comments, Express.co.uk reader EURdoomed said: “Fabricant Fabricating again, and what’s with that ridiculous wig. Hope he held onto the receipt.”
While Notimpressed hammered: “Fabricant, you are exactly what is wrong about our political class, time all of you lot was wiped out once and for all our sakes.”
