Today, new Prime Minister Liz Truss faced off against leader of the opposition Sir Keir Starmer for the first time as Parliament resumed after summer break.

She takes over as PM at a turbulent time for the UK, with the cost of living crisis continuing to impact Britons nationwide.

Sir Keir began PMQs welcoming Ms Truss to her new position, with the Tory premier saying she hopes she can work with the Labour leader on issues they agree on going forward.

The pair went head to head on windfall taxes, with Ms Truss pledging an announcement would be coming on Thursday to take “immediate action to help people” impacted by the energy crisis.

SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford also questioned the Prime Minister’s new plan, dubbing it a “Truss tax” on “household and businesses” rather than “targeting the profits of massive corporations with a windfall tax”.

In response, Ms Truss said: “Well I’m not quite sure what the right honourable gentleman’s position is, because on one hand he doesn’t seem to want oil and gas extraction from the North Sea, and on the other hand he wants them to pay more taxes. Why doesn’t he make up his mind?”

Her first PMQs had a mixed response from viewers, some praising Ms Truss while others were not so enamoured.

User @Paulh253 said on Twitter: “Very impressed with the new PM in her 1st PMQS long road ahead but great start”. And @SFran51 said: “She wiped the floor with Keir Starmer.”

However, user @birty4306 accused Ms Truss of “spouting same old clichés.”

But how do you think Ms Truss fared in her first Prime Minister’s Questions?
