LBC host Rachel Johnson was discussing the intense situation with Russia and Ukraine as Russian troops have massed along its neighbour’s border for months. Ms Johnson spoke to Russian caller called Olga, who defended Russia and claimed there was no Russian threat to invade Ukraine. Ms Johnons and Olga got into a heated conversation as Olga claimed that Russia never invaded Crimea in 2014, as the event is not included in any history books.

Caller Olga said: “They are on Russian territory, they are not invading Ukraine.

“Ukraine says they don’t want invasion, they don’t want the war, Russia says so.

“But the two countries who are talking constantly about the war, and shameful war like it was in Iraq and Afghanistan, is America and UK,”

Butting in Ms Johnson said: “But in 2014, 14,000 people have died in the war when Russia took over Crimea in 2014.

Ms Johnson added: “So you’re telling me that there has been no war and it’s only hysteria on the part of the US and the UK?”

Caller Olga said: “Yes I’m telling you the country which lost 27m civilians to the Second World War would never go into war again.”

Ms Johnson said: “Well I hope you’re right Olga but it certainly raises the question, what are they all doing then? Sorry, carry on.”

Caller Olga said: “I’m not sure which you’re referring to…2014.”

Ms Johnson added: “Russia taking over and invading Crimea.”

Caller Olga said: “That’s not in a history book, it’s never happened.”

Ms Johnson said: “Ok! Ok, what happened in Crimea then? What happened in Crimea?”

Olga however failed to respond, citing Britain’s own involvement in Iraq before Ms Johnson put an end to the call.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Liz Truss have been trying to hold diplomatic talks with Russia over the past week.

The pair have visited Russia and Ukraine, and both have had multiple phone calls, with their political counterparts in Europe, to try and de-escalate the situation.

Ms Truss announced new toucher sanctions on Russia to deter them from attacking Ukraine.

Both Mr Johnson and US President Joe Biden have urged their citizens in recent days to flee Ukraine, some airlines have cancelled their flights to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.

US Department of State spokesman Ned Price said: “Secretary Blinken emphasised the importance of working with our Nato Allies and European partners in the region to impose swift, severe costs on Russia in response to any further military aggression by Russia against Ukraine.

“They also discussed that international efforts should continue to seek a meaningful dialogue with Russia on mutual security concerns that could lead to a diplomatic resolution.

“Secretary Blinken reaffirmed that any decision the United States makes in Europe will be in consultation with our Allies and partners.”
