Lib Dem candidate posted about killing in unearthed Facebook rant

Sir Ed Davey launches Lib Dem Berkhamsted election campaign

A Liberal Democrat candidate in the upcoming local elections made shocking statements in Facebook posts seen by the Daily Express promoting violence and a desire to “kill” before she was involved with the party. Nikita Primrose Sykes, who is the party’s candidate in the North Yorkshire seat of Skelton West, said “I really really want to kill something”, among numerous other violent social media statuses.

Ms Sykes announced that she is standing in the Redcar council ward last week, proclaiming a platform of transgender rights, equality and accusing the Conservatives of “destroying the country”.

However historic Facebook posts found by the Express show a history of shocking posts from the candidate a decade ago.

In 2013 Ms Sykes said: “Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I really really want to kill something.” Two months later she posted: “You better f****n have nine lives coz I f****n have eight knives.”

She also threatened: “One more person calls me a weirdo or filthy c*** then I think I’m going to rip their vocal cords out and use them to slice their knackers off.”

Ms Sykes posted in May 2013: “I hate the f*****g northeast, why is it I seem to attract the f*****g b*****d scum everywhere I go, feel like either hurting them or killing myself.”

The Facebook account also detailed use of cannabis up to 2015, accusing the Government of making “war with us cannabis smokers” and sharing a graphic reading “home is where the weed is”.

Another pro-marijuana post from Ms Sykes read: “Thank you, Cannabis”, listing the drug as helping her “get to bed… giving me the motivation to write… introducing me to great friends… helping me with my anger issues… helping me keep a positive outlook… for being there for me when no one else was”.

Approached by the Express for a reaction, local Conservative MP Simon Clarke said the posts from Nikita Sykes are “horrifying”.

He said: “These quotes are horrifying, most especially in their repeated references to, and threats of, extreme violence.

“It is very obvious Ms Sykes is totally unsuitable for public office and I hope the Liberal Democrats will act immediately to withdraw her candidacy – she ought never to have been allowed to stand in the first place.

“I hope she can now find the help she clearly needs.”

Nikita Primrose Sykes announced her candidacy on Thursday, using the name “Katy Primose Sykes” on her nomination form and stating her values.

She said: “I am a trans woman, an agnostic atheist, and psychology student. I have lived in the local area for most of my life.

“I stand for human rights and equality, and as a trans woman more equality for underrepresented and underprivileged groups.

“Also as a trans woman I stand for more rights and protections for women.

“With the Conservatives destroying the country, and Labour dithering, please consider voting for the safe and fair vote that is the Liberal Democrats.”

The Lib Dems received 87 votes in the ward when it was last up for election in 2019.

A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said: “We are looking into these comments which appear to have been made several years ago on social media.

“Any complaints will be fully reviewed under the party’s independent complaints system.”

Ms Sykes was contacted for comment.
