Nick Ferrari delivered a stern dressing down of Dame Cressida Dick’s resignation speech after she claimed London was becoming “safer” as time went on. Mr Ferrari was confused as knife crime statistics were at their highest levels and remarked many people do not feel safe in the capital, especially young black men. But the radio presenter was also angry at the suggestion from Dame Cressida that her diverse police force was one of her biggest achievements and wondered why she did not point towards more impactful statistics like drug crime falling or other victories.

Speaking on LBC, Mr Ferrari reflected on Dame Cressida’s speech and was angry at the points she made.

Mr Ferrari explained: “Dame Cressida appeared, I would imagine, it looked like the balcony near Scotland Yard from my knowledge of it.

“It seemed it was a fairly lengthy farewell stepping down speech as it were, resignation, I thought this was a particular interest.”

Mr Ferrari then played a clip of the former police chief saying: “I leave the Met that is larger and is growing and London is becoming safer.

“These officers are great people, they include more women than ever, in every rank and role and an increasing number from a broad range of ethnic backgrounds.

“That truly reflects the diversity of this most diverse city.”

Mr Ferrari disliked the statement and disagreed London was becoming safer.

He added: “Now, I wonder there if we saw the true Dame Cressida.

Cressida Dick resigns as Met Police Commissioner

“Safer, do you, I appreciate you don’t all live in London, do you feel safer if you live in this city?

“Particularly for a young man, particularly if you’re young black man, noticing the high level of fatal stabbings last year, the worst of the years, the worst on record.

“And her other achievements, more women than ever before, that’s great but why would you point to that?

“Why isn’t it that we’ve cut drug crime by this or we’ve cut that crime by this, I’ve got officers at an extra 10,000 or whatever?

“Why is it that… probably because let’s face it, it’s not safer.”

According to the Office of National Statistics, knife crime in the capital hit record highs with 15,080 knife offences recorded.

The figure shows a 2 percent increase from the year before.

Dame Cressida Dick announced she would be stepping down as Metropolitan Police Commissioner after she lost the confidence of London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Dame Cressida had told the BBC she had no intention of stepping down but shortly after she announced her resignation.

The former police boss said she had “no choice” to leave following a police watchdog report found “disgraceful” misogyny, discrimination among some officers.

Dame Cressida also faced criticism for the handling of the Sarah Everard vigil after police were seen to be heavyhanded in their policing of the event.

Mr Khan said he would now look for a new commissioner and try to rebuild trust in the police.

Dame Cressida will remain in the role for the next few weeks as a replacement is found.
