Minister on pro-Palestine march on Remembrance weekend
An organiser of the planned pro-Palestine protest on Armistice Day worked for Sir Keir Starmer until just days ago, according to reports.
Ben Soffa is listed as the secretary of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign which has led marches in London for the last four Saturdays.
But until earlier this week he also worked for the Labour Party as head of digital organising.
Labour sources told The Sun that Mr Soffa had moved on in recent days.
A Labour source said: “We’re grateful to Ben for all his work for the party and wish him all the best for the future.”
Tory chairman Greg Hands said: “Shocking hypocrisy from Sir Keir Starmer.
“Sir Keir urged Labour MPs not to attend pro-Palestinian marches.
“Meanwhile, the man planning the pro-Palestine march on Armistice Day was working for Sir Keir in Labour HQ! He was sacked only when found out!”
It comes amid a row over whether the planned rally in London this Saturday should go ahead due to fears Remembrance events may be disrupted or that violence could erupt.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has vowed to hold Met Police chief Sir Mark Rowley accountable for the decision to let the protest through the streets of the capital take place.
Sir Mark has resisted calls to try to block the march, which is calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
He said intelligence surrounding the potential for serious disorder this weekend does not meet the threshold to apply to prohibit the march.
The planned route goes from Hyde Park – about a mile from the war memorial in Whitehall – to the US embassy in Vauxhall.
Meanwhile, Sir Keir is facing a major revolt in Labour over his refusal to back a permanent end to fighting in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
