Cameraman killed in Kyiv tower strike
Freelance journalist Olga Tokariuk says her former colleague and camerman Yevhenii Sakun was one of the five killed in Tuesday’s Russian strike on Kyiv’s television tower.
The missile missed the television tower but hit a nearby Holocaust memorial, which has drawn ire from Jewish groups.
Ukraine’s emergency services say that 2000 civilians have died in the seven days of the Russian invasion.
Tokariuk said she was devastated to know one of those victims.
Navalny urges Russian uprising against ‘insane czar’
Russia’s detained opposition leader Alexei Navalny has urged Russians to rise up against Vladimir Putin.
In a Twitter thread posted a short time, Navalny, who is himself in prison and on trial — which has been discredited by the international community — as a sham, said Russians were people of peace but that they had to fight for that.

This is some of what he had to say:
“We – Russia – want to be a nation of peace. Alas, few people would call us that now,” Navalny said.
“But lets at least not become a nation of frightened silent people. Of cowards who pretend not to notice the aggressive war against Ukraine unleashed by our obviously insane czar.
“I cannot, do not want and will not remain silent watching how pseudo-historical nonsense about the events of 100 years ago has become an excuse for Russians to kill Ukrainians, and for Ukrainians to kill Russians while defending themselves.
“It’s the third decade of the 21st century, and we are watching news about people burning down in tanks and bombed houses. We are watching real threats to start a nuclear war on our TVs.
“I am from the USSR myself. I was born there. And the main phrase from there – from my childhood – was “fight for peace.” I call on everyone to take to the streets and fight for peace.”
Russia takes Kherson, but gains limited
The UK’s Defence Intelligence Unit says that while Russian forces appear to have captured the city of Kherson, other gains have been limited due to the Ukrainian resistance and logistics issues.
The Ministry of Defence says that heavy airstrikes and shelling have taken place in built-up areas, targeting the cities of Kharkiv, Kyiv, Mariupol and Chernihiv.
