A MAN has been shot in a park in Barnsley this afternoon just metres away from where children were playing.
Paramedics were seen helping an injured man in Locke Park while armed officers from South Yorkshire Police were seen surveying the area nearby.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service has confirmed that they attended to reports of a person being shot.
At least two ambulances, the air ambulance and at least one police vehicle attended the scene and a cordon has been put in place.
One witness told Yorkshire Live: "I was there with the little one when all police and ambulances turned up, never seen owt like it, got straight back in the car."
Another said: "Makes you not want to go anywhere!!
“A shooting at Locke Park, think Barnsley needs the military to pay a visit.
“I fear for my kids when they get older and start going out on their own."
Labour councillor for Barnsley's Darfield ward, Kevin Osborne, posted: "Worrying news from Locke Park, with reports of a shooting close to a children's play area.”
Meanwhile a man is fighting for life after a triple shooting outside a barber's shop in East London.
Police were scrambled to reports of a shooting in Upton Lane, Forest Gate, just before 7pm yesterday.
Three men were rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries – with one of the victims also suffering stab injuries.
One remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital, police confirmed.
The injuries of the other two men have been described as non life-threatening.
A crime scene remains in place and inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
