Beautiful beach ‘ruined by rich kids’ sees locals compare resort to Benidorm

A beautiful beach hotspot has been "ruined by feral rich kids" as locals moan about the resort turning into a Benidorm replica.

The popular West Country beach spot Polzeath in Cornwall was once a lovely place for families, but is now littered with empty Prosecco bottles, laughing gas canisters and private school kids.

Locals are furious at the state of the place and believe the broken glass and drug remnants were left by private school pupils during the two week summer holidays.

A two-day 10pm curfew was enforced by police and CCTV is now being installed across the beach as a way of tackling the troubles, BristolLive reported.

Troubles on the beach began back in 2022, with beach ranger Andy Stewart saying at the time: "Polzeath is a very popular Blue Flag beach and surf resort that attracts all different age groups.

"But it’s becoming known as a party town like Newquay was in the 90s when it became full of stag and hen dos. It took 10 years for Newquay to turn itself around and be known as a family-friendly place again."

The area was, at the time, overrun with a "Brits-abroad-in-Benidorm crowd", CornwallLive reported.

Mr Stewart worried for the "decline" and "reputation" of the area now the location is a hotspot for, as bakery owner Tim Jenkins said: "feral kids".

The baker added: "I’ve seen these kids get dropped off at mummy and daddy’s second home with a credit card and a bag of booze. Happy days.

"But expensive education doesn’t seem to translate in good behaviour – at least for a minority of them. It’s like they go feral. I think it’s the attitude of the parents that’s to blame."

Further issues in the area lie in how it is developed for those trying to make a living there, with Tim "annoyed" by the lack of variety on show.

He said: "I’m annoyed with the way it’s become overdeveloped. I think it’ll probably be my last season.

"Police have upped the ante too and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. It’s not a ‘them and us’ thing. We rely on tourism but we want the beach to be enjoyable by everyone."
