Black Widow killer who served husband poisoned curry seen shopping after release

A vicious killer dubbed the ‘Black Widow’ who laced her second husband's curry with a lethal dose of anti-depressants has been spotted shopping in Poundland after a parole board granted her release from prison.

Dena Thompson, now 61, had been serving a life sentence for the murder of her second husband Julian Webb at their home in Yapton, West Sussex, on his birthday back in 1994, but it would take several years before the truth came to light.

Throughout her sentence, she was assessed as ‘high risk’, as officials were concerned about any relationship she formed, given her history of manipulating, deceiving and grooming vulnerable men.

Even still, she was released last month, and has now been introduced to the outside world again as Thompson hit the high street in a black anorak, jeggings and Skechers trainers, reports the Sun.

But despite the parole board deciding Thompson is free to re-enter society, Martyn Underhill, a former detective chief inspector who exposed Thompson’s crimes, said she still poses a threat.

"This woman is every man’s nightmare. For a decade, she targeted men sexually, financially and physically," he told the Mail Online.

"I believe she still poses a danger. The authorities must keep a close eye on her."

Thompson married Mr Webb bigamously in 1991 while still married to first husband Lee Wyatt, who told the court she had made false accusations against him, made him go on the run and set him up to take the blame for her frauds.

After Mr Webb’s death, and eventually divorcing Mr Wyatt, she married British Telecom executive Richard Thompson in 1999.

She stole his life savings and ran up thousands on his credit cards while forging his signature to obtain loans.

Mr Thompson was naked and bound when she was said to have battered him with a baseball bat and stabbed him.

Charged with attempted murder, in August 2000 she told the jury at Lewes crown court she had acted in self-defence when Mr Thompson turned violent after discovering she had stolen from him.
