‘Blue plaque’ in honour of ‘taxidermist’ who used to ‘swear at seagulls’ is installed near sea front in Welsh seaside town of Aberystwyth
- The new sign reads: Huw Davies. Taxidermist & Swearing Enthusiast Lived Here
A blue plaque has been installed to commemorate a man made famous – for swearing at seagulls.
The honour was cheekily bestowed on Huw Davies – who was renowned for shooing the pesky birds away with expletives.
Huw, from Aberystwyth in Wales, was previously honored with a joke plaque on his favourite bench when he passed away.
It read ‘In loving memory of Huw Davies. Used to sit here and shout ‘F*** off!’ at the seagulls.’
And now a joke blue plaque has now been spotted in Mr Davies’ name near the sea front.
It reads: ‘Huw Davies. Taxidermist & Swearing Enthusiast Lived Here.’
A blue plaque dedicated to Aberystwyth resident Huw Davies has been erected in the town
Last year, a plaque on a bench near Aberystwyth Castle in Wales, was dedicated ‘in loving memory’ to one Huw Davies who enjoyed swearing at seagulls
At the time, a spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: ‘An unauthorised plaque had been placed, by an unknown person, on an existing bench within Aberystwyth Castle grounds’

It follows just a year after a similar tribute to Mr Davies was erected in the town within the grounds of Aberystwyth Castle.
It was first spotted by a passer-by called James tweeted a photograph of the unusual tribute on Sunday, calling it, ‘By some distance the best park bench memorial I’ve ever encountered’.
The post went on to gather more than 200,000 likes, with the issue quickly coming to the attention of Ceredigion County Council, who took the plaque away.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘I must admit this Huw Davies sounds an amusing character. If this Park bench memorial helps people remember him well then so be it.’
Another said: ‘Oh fantastic, I wish I had known that man. I think we would’ve got on in lots of ways.’
The bench plaque was later removed by the council.
Commenting at the time, a spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: ‘An unauthorised plaque had been placed, by an unknown person, on an existing bench within Aberystwyth Castle grounds.
‘The plaque has been removed.’
