Bones of Scientologist woman who vanished three years ago found in eerie woods

Human remains found in a German forest have been identified as a missing woman who vanished three years ago.

Yolanda Klug disappeared after fleeing the Scientologist sect in which her family were key members.

The 26-year-old student from Leipzig, Germany was last seen on September 25, 2019.

At the time, friends claimed she had left her apartment with the intent to take a bus to a nearby IKEA store.

She was meant to meet them later that evening but vanished and was never heard from again.

Investigators later determined that her phone had been switched off at about 2pm that day.

The mystery surrounding her disappearance has puzzled authorities for years but answers may finally be uncovered after her remains were found last month.

A person walking in a forest in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt discovered some bones in late February.

Forensic tests were performed and on Thursday, March 3, authorities confirmed the bones belonged to Yolanda.

Investigators told local media: "On Saturday, 25th February 2023, a passer-by found bones in a forest area in the Burgenland district, Saxony-Anhalt, and then informed the police.

"The forensic examination of the bones revealed that they are human bones and that they come from Yolanda Klug."

It has previously been reported that Yolanda was a Scientologist until 2017.

Despite having left the organisation investigators reportedly pursued it as part of their investigation.

The day before her disappearance, Yolanda had dinner with her father and told them about her upcoming plans.

Her father, Peter Klug, as well as her mother and her sister, are reportedly closely connected to Scientology.

German media reported that her dad took courses on a Scientology cruise ship, her mother was a press officer for the Swiss branch of Scientology and her sister is a member of the SeaOrg, also known as the Sea Organization, which is a Scientologist organisation.

Large searches conducted by the police with sniffer dogs proved futile in locating her body.

Police reports noted that the £7,000 in her bank account, remained untouched, which led investigators to rule out theft as a motive for her disappearance.

There are currently no indications of who was involved in the young woman's disappearance.

Investigators said: "There are currently no indications of third-party negligence."
