Boyfriend who put knife to pregnant girlfriend's throat and threatened to 'stamp out' unborn baby is jailed

A TWISTED boyfriend has been jailed after holding a ten-inch knife to his pregnant girlfriend's throat in a jealous rage and threatening to "stamp out" her baby.

Joshua Thomas, 24, made the chilling threat against his own unborn child after accusing his 18-year-old partner of sleeping with his uncle.

The court heard the incident happened after the trio went to their local pub.

Prosecutor Eugene Egan said mum-to-be Shannae Sullivan-Bond remained "stone-cold sober" while the two men drank heavily.

But when the group returned to the couple's flat in Ely, Cardiff, Thomas became obsessed with the idea his girlfriend and his uncle were attracted to each other.

Egan said: "The defendant got Miss Sullivan-Bond alone in the bedroom and pushed her on the bed.

"He began to press his clenched fists on her chest area. She told him it was painful and expressed concern for their unborn baby.

"But he said he would 'stamp the baby' out of her.

"Thomas then got a knife from the kitchen, the blade measuring 10 inches, and he held it to the throat of his uncle and then his girlfriend, threatening to kill both of them.

"Miss Sullivan-Bond was petrified by that and the defendant later head-butted his uncle."

After the attack Thomas burst into tears and apologised to both his girlfriend and his uncle.

But just three weeks after the attack – which happened last June – Shannae suffered a tragic miscarriage.

It was not established for certain whether Thomas' terrifying attack contributed to her losing the baby.

Egan said he had a number of previous offences relating to violence against exes who he had accused of sleeping with his uncle.

Judge Eleri Rees told Thomas: "The concern I have is that it is only a matter of time before you seriously injure somebody.

"As far as Miss Sullivan-Bond is concerned not only was she vulnerable because she was pregnant but vulnerable because of her relationship with you.

"Your accusation involving your uncle I'm sure has no basis in truth."

Thomas was jailed for 16 months and slapped with a restraining order after pleading guilty to common assault and making threats to kill.
