Bridge collapse leaves one dead and more injured as vehicle plunges into river

A man has died and several others have been left injured after a vehicle and trailer plunged into a river when a bridge collapsed.

Police were called around 4.25pm yesterday (January 18) to Roeburndale near Lancaster after reports of a 'serious incident' in the area.

A Polaris Ranger pulling a trailer reportedly fell into the river below after a bridge gave way, according to reports.

11 people were inside the vehicle and trailer at the time of the incident, with several of these taken to hospital.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.

Another suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

A third was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary with a serious back injury, with several others injured in the accident have also been taken to the hospital.
