Brit and lifelong Liverpool fan shot dead in US after visit to late-night store

A British bloke has been shot dead while holidaying in the US while visiting a late-night convenience store.

Benjamin Tucker died from a gunshot wound after a suspect is said to have allegedly opened fire, killing Tucker and injuring another.

The 27-year-old Brit was visiting family in Savannah, Georgia, when he was gunned down at a Timesaver Store, while another man, Henry McDonough, 32, was injured in the crossfire but survived, the Mirror reports.

Tucker had been living in London and was originally from Hampshire, and had flown over to visit relatives in the US for a month when he was shot to death in the store.

Police have charged Georgiamae Lawrence with Tucker's murder.

The 27-year-old's family paid tribute to the huge Liverpool fan, calling Tucker a "smart, loyal and funny man".

They said: "On Saturday April 24, 2022, a dear son, brother and friend was cruelly taken from us. Benjamin Tucker, aged 27, was randomly shot dead in Savannah, USA whilst visiting his family.

"Ben was a lifelong Liverpool fan based in London and loved the club immensely. He was always there making others around him happier, whether it be through laughter or care. His favourite number was eight because of Stevie G (Gerrard).

"You'll Never Walk Alone, Ben."

Liverpool fans marked Tucker's passing with a round of applause for the 27-year-old at Anfield last night where Liverpool took on Villarreal in the Champions League.

A coordinated round of applause was posted to Twitter and retweeted by current club captain Jordan Henderson and Liverpool legend and pundit Jamie Carragher to raise awareness for fans attending the game.

Friend Josh Bothe, 27, organised the applause for the 28th minute of the match, The Mirror reported.

He said: "It's a show of support to the family, they're also big Liverpool fans, in particular his brother. It's a little gesture to show the family that we are thinking of them."

Moments after police had responded to Tucker's shooting, they are said to have responded to another unrelated shooting nearby.
