A BRITISH man has drowned off a beach at a popular holiday resort on Spain's Costa Brava.
The 62-year-old was found lifeless in the water following a search by emergency responders including police and paramedics.
A woman is said to have raised the alarm around 1pm on Saturday after he failed to return from a swim at a beach in the attractive resort of Calella de Palafrugell in the north-east province of Girona close to Spain's border with France.
He had gone for his swim at Sant Roc Cove, a residential area of the town surrounded by a beautiful setting of rocks, cliffs and old fishermen’s cottages.
Police sources said an autopsy had yet to take place but early indications were pointing to him drowning in a tragic accident.
An investigation, which is being coordinated by a local investigating judge, was ongoing today.
It was not immediately clear if the woman who raised the alarm was the man’s partner and whether they lived in the area or were on holiday.
The tragic news comes just a week after a British man died in Tenerife in front of his son.
A 58-year-old man was pulled out of the sea after going into cardiac arrest.
