Britain to see temperatures near 30C later this week as heatwave set to return

Britain is set to see temperatures reach nearly as high as 30C later this week, with a heatwave set to return.

East Anglia and the south east are the regions that will see the highest temperatures, which could see the mercury reach as high as 29C on Saturday (July 8).

Weather maps also show a high of 28C in north east England and 26C in London.

The west part of the country will see lower temperatures, with Scotland and Wales being in the low 20s, while Northern Ireland will be in the high teens.

Netweather.tv forecasts a "rather changeable" week ahead with westerly winds and temperatures close to or just below the seasonal average, with below-average temperatures most likely affecting western Britain.

The forecaster said: "The weather will be showery much of the time, with troughs in the westerly flow sometimes merging the showers into longer spells of rain.

"While some showers have the potential to be heavy and thundery, particularly in eastern Britain, overall, thunderstorms are not expected to be numerous.

"Winds are expected to briefly turn southerly on Friday and Saturday, which will raise temperatures above the seasonal norm.

"Although this southerly shift is likely to be too brief to usher in any particularly hot weather from the south, the weather is expected to return to being unsettled with westerly winds.

"However, as we approach mid-July, there is increasing potential for the UK to experience some hot weather originating from the south."
