An 11-year-old child has died after losing consciousness on board a Turkish Airlines flight, forcing the flight to make an emergency landing. On Sunday morning, the flight had taken off from Istanbul and was heading to New York.
However, the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Budapest.
Medics were unable to resuscitate the child at the scene.
The Airport Medical Service was scrambled after flight TK003 landed in Budapest, news agency MTI reported.
The young boy became ill after boarding the flight that took off from Istanbul Airport at 8:56am local time (6:56am BST).
The 11-year-old is believed to be an American who was travelling with his family.
The cabin crew performed first aid on the young boy, who had a disability, according to local media.
A doctor that happened to be onboard performed CPR on the child but he could not be saved.
The aircraft’s crew informed the Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport Traffic Control Tower and got permission for the emergency landing at 10.30am.
An ambulance was waiting to transport the boy and his family to the hospital.
The flight resumed its journey a few hours later at 2pm.
