Even as Denverites bask in balmy short-sleeve temperatures with more than two weeks left in winter, skiers and snowboarders are eyeing a quick-hitting storm system that will benefit all mountain areas beginning Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday.
Accumulations in the southern mountains are expected to range between 6 and 12 inches, according to OpenSnow, a weather forecasting and monitoring service. Snowfall in the central mountains should be in the 3- to 8-inch range. While the northern mountains are anticipating 4-8 inches, some areas could receive as much as 10 inches, depending on how the storm develops. Those areas include Vail, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Loveland and Winter Park.
OpenSnow meteorologist Joel Gratz wrote in his daily report that there will be multiple chances for more storms over the next two weeks, with an active weather pattern beginning around March 15.
“Of course, we are talking about a 6-15+ day forecast, so the timing of these systems will change at least a little, but hopefully that provides a decent ballpark estimate,” Gratz wrote. “The longer-range precipitation vs. average forecast puts us in the green zone during the next two weeks, which indicates a good chance for greater-than-average precipitation.”
