Police are hunting the organisers of an illegal wedding attended by over 150 people at a London school whose principal died of Covid.

Footage shows guests fleeing the state-funded Orthodox Jewish school in Stamford Hill, where the windows had been covered to stop people looking in.

Just one organiser and five attendees have been fined but detectives are on the hunt for more law breakers, the Mirror reports.

A video shows a large police presence heading towards the school as lines of officers march down the street moments before the bust.

The Metropolitan Police initially said about 400 people were packed inside the building for a wedding, but later revised the figure down to 150.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis condemned the wedding and called the celebration "shameful" as it emerged the principal of the school had died from coronavirus.

Under current lockdown rules, weddings and civil partnerships can only take place with up to six people.

Government guidance also says weddings should only go ahead in "exceptional circumstances," such as where one partner is seriously ill.

Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett, said: "Given the seriousness of this breach and the number of people who were in attendance, I have asked my local officers to conduct a post-incident investigation.

"This wedding broke the law and put lives in danger and I am determined to take action to identify all those responsible for organising the event and ensure they are held to account."

A spokesman for Boris Johnson said the police were right to take action against "people who flagrantly and selfishly ignore the rules."

The Prime Minister's spokesman said: "Large gatherings such as that pose a health risk, not just to those who attend but those who they live with or others who they may come into contact with.

"We fully back the police in taking action against people who flagrantly and selfishly ignore the rules."
