It may look like a house from the hit CBeebies show Balmory – but this is anything but.
It is, in fact, a real house, with a real couple, in a real village, who clearly love the colour yellow.
Ann Marie Beacock, 70, and husband Leighton, 68, decided to paint their house a striking shade to inject a bit of colour and life into their ‘beige’ village in Dilke, Canada.
But the couple ignited fury from other villagers, who’ve hit out at what they say is an ‘unsightly’ colour.
It all started when Ann, a retired interior designer, received an anonymous phone call from a man who said her house looked ‘ugly’.
He went on to say he no longer wanted to buy a piece of land adjacent to the house because it is such a sickly colour.
Ann believes the same person has been walking past her house and can’t even bring himself to look up at her dazzling home.
She has lived in the remote village for the past 30 years and decided now was the time to add a bit of excitement.
She said: ‘We live in a tiny village. All the houses are quite old and beige.
‘My husband and I decided our home needed a paint and we decided to wake up the town.’
Ann said the phone call from the upset neighbour left her ‘irritated’.
She added: ‘He must have known my husband and I. We liked it – we loved it – we didn’t care what our neighbours thought.
‘When I see someone looking at my house, I smile at them and they giggle back.
‘The negative reactions aren’t really a surprise.
‘I hope in another ten years more houses in Canada will be painted colours other than beige.’
