A FUMING dad has slammed school bosses after claiming his son was banned from classes over his £50 black JD Sports shoes.
Paul Holt's 12-year-old son Kian, who attends Stockport Academy in Greater Manchester, says he checked the school uniform guide before purchasing the black Kickers.
Paul was left stunned when teachers said his son's footwear did not fit the "plain, black school shoes" rule.
School bosses say that the shoes are trainers, which are banned in the uniform policy.
Kian was given a warning on his first day back at school on Wednesday last week, and the following day when he turned up in the same uniform he was put in isolation.
Paul called the school and informed them that JD Sports advertises the footwear as "shoes" and not "trainers" on its website, but school bosses would not budge.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Paul said: “Like all parents, we did the school uniform shop over the summer holidays and checked the school’s website for guidelines.
“On the website, it just specifies ‘black’ shoes.
“So I took him to JD Sports and went to the ‘school’ section and bought some plain, black shoes for £50.
“I sent him to school and Kian came home saying he was told his shoes were unacceptable.”
Teachers told Kian to remove the shoes and put on second hand alternatives, however he refused and was put in detention as a result.
Paul says that the policy to give students alternative footwear is "unhygenic".
He added: “I have already spent a couple of hundred pounds on uniform this year. There are some families that can’t just go out and buy shoes.
“My son is missing out and is going to be behind.”

While the school cannot comment on individual cases, a spokesman from Stockport Academy said: “We have a strict uniform policy that applies across the school and which focuses on students wearing sensible and affordable items of clothing that are easily available.
“Parents are fully aware of the policy and it is overwhelmingly supported and followed by students.
“If a student comes to the school with inappropriate shoes, we have a number of spare pairs of acceptable ones, which they are offered to wear in class rather than be taught separately.
“We expect every student to adhere to the policy, which ensures consistency across the school.”
